New Orleans Saints @ Chicago Bears
This should be a really good matchup with all sorts of playoff implications. Both teams are 7-6 and on the wild card bubble in the NFC, so both have their 2008 season at stake here. I think it’s all hinging on the Bears defense and how well the Saints can exploit its weaknesses. The RB tandem of Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas has been solid over the last few weeks, but faces the 6th ranked run D that allows an average of only 91.2 yards per game. However, there is talk that DL Tommy Harris could be out, and if so, the Saints run game would clearly get a boost. With or without Harris though, the Bears passing D needs to wake up for this one. Weather doesn’t seem to be a factor here (low 30’s but no precipitation), so look for Drew Brees to air it out against a horiffic pass D that ranks 28th in the leage and allows 234.2 passing yards per game. Lance Moore and Marques Colston could spend all night torching this secondary. On the other side of the ball, the Bears will most likely continue to lean on standout rookie RB Matt Forte. He’s been great all season whether it rushing or receiving. His totals have been outstanding. This might not bode too well for the Saints whose defense is pretty weak right now. Against the run, they rank 20th (112.8 YPG) and against the pass, it’s worse — 26th (231.2 YPG). Forte should have some nice fantasy totals, but a Bears victory is going to depend on how well Kyle Orton controls the offense. He’s got decent targets in TE Greg Olsen and WRs Rashied Davis and Devin Hester, but if their D doesn’t hold, it might not be enough. The Good: Matt Forte, Drew Brees, Reggie Bush, Lance Moore The OK: Kyle Orton, Devin Hester, Greg Olsen, Pierre Thomas, Marques Colston The Ugly: Rashied Davis, Jeremy Shockey, Devery Henderson
