I am one big Rat Bastar!!
This league’s rules are a little different than most keeper leagues that you will hear about. We get to keep five players. There is a one-round draft prior to the auction in which teams can pick one rookie or second year player for a cheap price. This is good because the auction doesn’t take as long. It is bad because there is not a ton of talent in the free agent pool for the auction. Research is key, and knowledge is power. Other than that it is pretty standard. We start with $150 and we start 3 WRs, no defense and 15 man rosters. Rat Bastar ‘07 made it to the Superbowl, and lost to an inferior team. I have high hopes for Rat Bastar ‘08. So here we go. Your fantasy season if you're not watching your waiver wire
Baseball. Football. Baseball. Football. This time of year just gets so chaotic sometimes. But for you fantasy baseball folk that felt you got pushed to the back-burner yesterday, my most humble apologies. While only a select few of you are still reading and in the hunt for a championship, there are hordes of people getting ready for their football drafts and we can’t ignore them. Besides, you get all that spring attention for your draft, so why shouldn’t they? In any event, with the clock ticking down on the baseball season, some of you (especially if you’ve been hit by the injury bug like I have) still need to make a few tweaks to your roster. There’s still plenty of guys out there who can help you make a final push and there’s certainly some dead weight you can cast off. Here’s a look at some of the players that may end up on (or off) my roster…

Time for your fantasy football draft broads...I mean boards!
For all of you fantasy baseballers out there looking for your usual Picking Up & Dropping Off installment, my apologies. The segment will return tomorrow. For today, however, it’s more fantasy football as last night was my first draft of the season. 12 team, snake-style draft starting 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 RB/WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF and 1 IDP. Not sure how I feel about the IDP, but what can you do…? It was my work league, so I needed a good showing since my boss and a few of his henchmen tune in to the Buzz for guidance. I got my rankings ready, depth charts in order, a few sleeper lists and I was set. I sat down at the computer (no one does the live draft anymore…sad) about 20 minutes prior to the start time to check my draft position. Ugh! The 11th pick. Not a big fan. Time to adjust the draft strategy. Want to see how it unfolded? Here we go… (more…)
This is my favorite part. Getting to chose the hottie to present the Buzzie awards. Ah! I just got a text confirming our presenter. She is as talented as she is beautiful. Some say that she brings bad luck, but we all know that is BS. It wasn’t her fault that Patrick Crayton dropped that ball while wide open in the middle of the field. It isn’t her fault that the Cowboy Superbowl hopes were ruined. And she is just so HOT! Jessica Simpson. Welcome. Who will she hand that ever coveted Buzzie Award for MVP to? Could it be Tim Lincecum? Nah, he has won an award before and my opponent owns him. Maybe Mike Cameron. He did have 5 HRs, 4 SBs, and a .400+ BA over the last two weeks. But that wasn’t good enough. This week’s winner of the Buzzie for MVP is………… (more…)

Eyes peeled for matchups
Focus, people. Eyes on the prize. This is no time to give up. After all, the entire season can come down to one run scored, one RBI, one win. Hell the difference between winning and losing can be as insignificant as a single strikeout. Do you want to lose because you didn’t keep up with your managerial responsibilities? I know football is coming. No one is more excited than me, but you gotta stick with it. Just for a little while longer. Here are some matcups to help you out. (more…)
That’s it! I’ve had enough! And hopefully you’ve had enough too. At first I thought it was a bullpen conspiracy. Hong Chi Kuo, Chan Ho Park and Jonathan Broxton were obviously jealous of Clayton Kershaw’s abilities all the attention he’s received this year, and just like the clowns down in Triple-A, they seemed completely incapable of closing out a victory for the rookie lefthander. 15 starts and only 6 decisions??? Sure the kid’s had some rough outings, but he does more good than bad and doesn’t deserve to have his gems tossed aside because of a shoddy pen. (more…)
Lots of action in training camp. Position battle and injuries change value every day. Check out the updated cheatsheets (more…)
If you’re like me, then this can be a very difficult time of the year. I’ll be headed to the playoffs in 2 baseball head to head leagues and the race is super crazy tight in my rotisserie league. But football is coming….hell, football is here. Training camps have been open for weeks, preseason games have already started and fantasy football drafts are coming up fast throughout the next 2 weeks. Hopefully you’ve been checking here and found our Fantasy Football Cheatsheets at the top of the page. We’ve been tinkering with our rankings for the past couple of weeks to try and keep you up to date with player movement and position battles. However, as is the case with baseball, rankings aren’t enough. You always need a little more. A little more insight, a little more speculation, if you will. So as I look around the NFL today, here’s some of the things I’m looking at while I prepare for my drafts… (more…)

Your season's disappearing faster than this plate of meatless patties
If we didn’t hammer the point home enough in Monday’s column, let me hit you with a little reality here. Time is running out! We’re nearing the end, and for a lot of you, this could be your last chance to make the playoffs. For you roto players, a month and a half to the end will fly by faster than Prince Fielder on a plate of veggie burgers. But for you head to head folks, the end is here. If you can make daily pickups , then you need to be as proactive as possible. Weekly lineup changes, this could be your last chance for one final push. No one wants to be left out in the cold after this much time put in, so don’t stop now and take a look at some of your options here…
