Our 2nd Snake Draft

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

Wow, that was a lot of drafting.  Having completed 3.8 of the 4 drafts I am doing this year, I’m in full swing baseball crazy mode ova her’.  This was the second of the “snake drafts” that Howard and I both did.  This draft TOOK FOREVER!!!  The first one was over in less than 2 ½ hours cause we were only allowed 90 seconds to make our decision.  The draft we just finished took over 5 hours because they allowed 4 freaking minutes to make each pick.  If you give them that much time, they will take that much time, at least some of the time.  Anyway, it was a standard 5×5, 2C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, CI, MI, DH, 6OF, 9P.  12 teams.  I had the 6th pick this time.  I must say that is SO MUCH NICER a position to draft from than the 11th slot as my first draft was.  Without further ado, here are your Lalouche Nukes for 2007.  Enjoy. Fan Mailbag

Friday, March 30th, 2007

Hi Keith, Like the new site.  I wanted to get your thoughts on the TB closer as well as Kubel, Danks, and Loewen. Thanks, Rick

Well, you really couldn’t have chosen a more confusing closer situation to watch.  (more…)

Theft is Good

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

I highly endorse thievery.  You should too.  If you don’t, then have fun at the bottom of the league SB standings all year.  Just because you missed out on the premier SB threats out there doesn’t mean that you have to just tank the category.  There are plenty of players out there that you can get instead of those guys late in the draft.  Will they do the same amount of good as having Reyes at shortstop?  No, of course they won’t.  They can, however, round out your roster near the end of the draft for 1/3 the price or even less. Our First Draft of ‘07. . . My Version

Monday, March 26th, 2007

Ok, folks.  As you know, Howard and I participated in our first draft of the year on Sunday.  Although it is not that deep a league with only 12 teams, it could give you some insight as to which sleepers have been outted, or which quality players are slipping.  You would be surprised at how similar the percentages are of like-minded GMs from league to league.  12 Teams, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, C, CI, MI, 2-UTL, 5 OF, 3SP, 3RP, 3P.  Standard 5×5 with weekly lineup changes. Marlins Reel in Julio

Monday, March 26th, 2007

After weeks of speculation, the Florida Marlins finally made a move and traded RHP Yusmiero Petit to the Diamondbacks for Jorge Julio and some cash.

At first glance, it bumps up the value of Julio who will now be the full time closer. It also drops the value of Marlins RPs Matt Lindstrom, Henry Owens and Kevin Gregg who will no longer be in line for save opportunities. It also diminishes the value of Taylor Tankersley, who was supposed to be the first in line for save opps but is currently hurt.

As for my own personal analysis…Julio’s decent. Worthy of a pick when all of the big time guys are off the board. I also think that pitching in Florida could help him out. The parks in Baltimore and Arizona are hitters’ parks and when Julio is off, or experiencing one of those patented meltdowns, a pitchers’ park like Florida could be beneficial. Of course it won’t help if some dude smacks a 450 ft. shot, but hey…worst case scenario…maybe.

I like him with the Marlins. Bid wisely though. Oh…and don’t rule out Tankersley altogether. He’s useful as a reliever in deep mixed leagues, and if anything ever happens to our man Jorge, Tanks is the next in line.

As for Petit, he remains a decent possibility for someone’s back enbd of the rotation, but he’ll start this year in Triple-A. Maybe he’ll come up if an injury occurs or if Doug Davis really forgot how to pitch.

My First Draft of 2007

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

So before I report on the draft, let me take this opportunity to say Yahoo! blows!!! Just a horrible site. Their rankings suck, their info sucks, and the fact that there are guys not available but will be starting come Opening Day is retarded. I mean retarded!!! Matt Lindstrom is walking in as the Marlins closer. Not available. Stupid Sammy Sosa is the DH for the Rangers. Not available. Yahoo! needs to take a page from CBS Sportsline or something because they just plain suck.

OK. So onto the draft… (more…)

First Official Draft Tonight

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

For everyone that’s been reading along, Keith and I are participating in our first draft (out of 3 or 4) tonight at 6:15 PM (pacific). It’s a snake style draft, 5×5 roto, mixed league. Now the number of teams is undetermined as of right now. It’s looking like 10-12. One guy at every position, with a MI, CI, 2 Util., 5 OF and 9 P (3 SP, 3 RP, 3 P) — the league is done on Yahoo! Not my favorite, but for this league, it’ll do.

Hopefully during the draft, but definitely after, we’ll go over an analyze the draft for you. We’ll talk about who we picked where and why, draft strategies, late round sleepers, and we’ll obviously crack on all the stupid picks that some of the other chumps made. It should be a helpful tool if you’re still waiting to draft this week.

So check back with us later on…..there’s gonna be a lot to talk about…

Position Winners and Band-Aids

Saturday, March 24th, 2007

Don’t confuse the winners of spring training battle with those players that are only going to be winning time due to injury.  Often even if these “band-aids” prove to be adequate or even good substitutes, they will most likely lose their jobs the instant the regular starter is ready to come back.  Here is some help to tell them apart.

10 Guys You (Might’ve) Never Heard Of

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

I wanted to share with you an article from Phil Brody, part of RotoBuzz’ Fantasy Football department. I like where his head’s at for baseball this year, so take a look…

There are so many options on the Internet when it comes fantasy baseball news, so I’m not going to bore you with the news and the names you have heard a dozen times before. And this post isn’t for everyone, especially those in 10-team or 12-teams re-draft leagues. Sorry, this post dives deep…way deep. This post is for those in 16-team leagues, keeper leagues, dynasty leagues, AL-Only, NL-Only. You know who you
are.
Oh, and you 10 & 12-team leaguers might still want to read on as you just might be getting a glimpse of the future here. After all, did you know about Broxton, Zumaya, Olsen, Phillips, Hanley Ramirez or Zimmerman before last year? I did. And these are some names that just might become as famous as those mentioned above. (more…)
